The World of Sholom Aleichem
Cavalry Charge
Ronald Reagan, Rhonda Fleming
1951 - Color - 88 minutes
Come with us to those thrilling, yet innocent, days of yesteryear when good fought evil on a level playing field. Join our former President in the role of the brave captain of Confederate troops wreaking havoc on a Union outpost. Unfortunately, the captains brother Jeb shows up and hes working for the North. Then Ronnies former fiancée, played by Rhonda Fleming, shows up to further complicate the situation. Finally, when the Apaches attack and the entire region is threatened with wholesale destruction, the brothers join forces to save the day. This was Reagans first western, so the produces allowed him to ride his own horse, "Tarbaby", during the action.

The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery
Steve McQueen, Molly McCarthy
1959 - B/W - 88 minutes
Based on an actual series of events, "The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery," is an intense psychological drama that boasts an early performance by Steve McQueen. Four cons and "young Turk" McQueen, join up to master-mind the perfect heist. But once inside the bank, things start to go awry and soon its every man for himself. The film's semi-documentary style, results in a gritty, realistic feel, enhanced by casting not only real police but actual customers who were in the bank at the time of the real robbery.

The World of Sholom Aleichem
Zero Mostel, Nancy Walker, Jack Gilford
1954 - B/W - 90 minutes
Reading the cast of this TV play is like reliving the glory days of televisions Golden Age. Among the stars are Charlotte Rae and Gertrude Berg, appearing in three classic stories told by Sholom Aleichem, the master Yiddish storyteller. "A Tale of Chelm" deals with a bookseller who is sent to buy a goat in a town full of fools--and runs into a situation where everything is taken literally. "Bontche Schweig" follows the path of a poor, defeated man who dies, goes to heaven, and when asked what he wants the most, his answer brings tears to the eyes of the angels. "The High School" portrays one couples efforts to get their son into a non-religious high school; its a story of one small but persistent effort to break out of the world of segregation. Watching the machinations presented in this video you realize that time has done nothing to dim the appeal of these tales.
